Six months to the 2025 Morton Games

Although we are currently in the depths of winter the 2025 Morton Games is already on the horizon – today there are only 6 months to go until another superb night of athletics at Morton Stadium, Dublin on Friday July 11th.

Planned events on the international programme for this World Athletics Continental tour bronze meet are, for men – 100, 400, 800, the Morton Mile, Albie Thomas 5000, shot put, and for women – 100 hurdles, 400, 800, 1500, high jump, discus.

Last year’s meet was outstanding as meet and Stadium records were set throughout the course of the night. Jordan Geist (USA) set a meet record, Stadium record and Irish allcomers shot put record of 22.25m. South Africa’s Edmund Du Plessis did likewise in the 800 recording 1.44.22. In the 5000 Amos Langat (KEN) set a new Stadium record of 13.12.44 with Nick Griggs (IRL) rewarded for his gutsy effort with a national U/23 record of 13.13.07. There was also a new Stadium record set in the women’s 1500 of 4.04.98 by Shannon Flockhart (GBR). Meet records also came in the women’s discus, Antonia Kinzel (GER), 59.12m and in the women’s 200, Chane Vermeulen (RSA) 23.19.

The magical night was book ended by Irish home wins: Sarah Lavin winning the 100 hurdles and then in the final event of the programme a magnificent win in the Morton Mile by Cathal Doyle, in a time of 3.52.06 (the 2nd fastest Morton mile time recorded) with 13 athletes going sub 4.

Morton Games is generously supported by Clonliffe Harriers, Athletics Ireland, Sport Ireland, Dublin City University, Fingal and by numerous commercial sponsors.
