Is Du Plessis the man to beat DCU 800?

Edmund Du Plessis may be the man to beat in the Dublin City University 800. The 2023 and 2024 South African champion set a 1.44.49 PB in Madrid on June 21st. Likewise Sam Ellis (USA) will challenge, he was a semifinalist in the US Olympic trials and only a matter of weeks ago clocked his PB in the New York City Grand Prix at 1.45.93. Indoors this year Ellis placed 6th in the famed Millrose Games.

Undoubtedly in the mix will be Guy Learmonth (GBR), 1.44.73 PB, back for a second bit at the Morton cherry. The Scot last year clocked a 1.44.80 in London shortly after running in Morton Games and already this season has a 1.45.49 showing from the Bislett Games.

Last year’s runner up Bram Buigel (NED) will be looking to go one better this time out.

Cian McPhillips spearhead the Irish challenge, the 2021 European U/20 1500 gold medallist won the national indoor championships this year.

Also confirmed is Pol Moya, who will become the first ever athlete from Andorra to complete in Morton Games, the Barcelona FC athlete has a 1.46.19 PB, Aurele Vandeputte (BEL), 1.45.49 and Tiarnan Crorken (GBR), 1.45.58.

Completing the super lineup are Ireland’s Mark Milner, Roland Surlis and Dara Donoghue.
