World Class Pole Vault Competition for Morton Games
In recent years the pole vault has proved to be one of the highs (no pun intended) of Morton Games and it is great to confirm that this year’s competition looks like it will be exceptional. Back is last year’s winner and stadium record holder Jeff Coover (USA). Coover has a PB of 5.68m and set a new stadium and Meet record of 5.57m at last year’s Meet. The vastly experienced Luke Cutts (GBR), who was not able to make last year’s Meet, is back and will look to trying to reclaim his title and in the process the stadium record. Cutts has the best PB in the Meet at 5.83m. Scotland’s Jax Thoris is a first time visitor to Morton Games and with a 5.65 PB will be well in the hunt.
Nikandros Stylianous has the honour of being the first Cypriot athlete to take part in the Morton Games. He is a 2 time Balkan champion and over the winter months on the indoor circuit won both the London Grand Prix and the Cardiff Grand Prix. He boasts a PB of 5.61. Rio Olympian Mareks Arents (LAT) was a 6th place finisher at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam and placed 8th at the indoor Europeans in 2017.
