Another magic Morton Games

Morton Games last night proved to be another superb night of athletics in Santry. Throughout the course of the day the weather was exceptionally kind, a bright sunny day, at times cloudy but overall an excellent night for athletics.  Although the wind did pick up a little on occasions this on the whole did not deter the athletes with tremendously exciting races all round.

There were three outstanding highlights.

In the Loki Sports 400 local hero Brian Gregan (Clonliffe Harriers) lined up as pre race favourite, with the World Championship qualifying time already bagged it meant that Brian could simply focus on racing and running fast without the burden of having to run fast. Morton Games ready to rock

The Morton Games takes place tonight from 6 p.m. The Meet will start with the famous juvenile U/16 16 x 100 – and a bit – adding up to a Mile relay and will then move on to the junior Morton Mile and the IMC races.

The international programme will get underway at 7 p.m. and thereafter the action will continue unabated until the iconic Morton Mile itself at 9 p.m.

A night of top class athletics is guaranteed.

Tickets for the Meet are available at the venue at a cost of €10.00 for adults with under 16s going free and for those who cannot make the Meet it is being livestreamed on this site (the link on the home page). English out, Grice in

Regrettably Ireland’s Mark English has withdrawn from the 800 at Morton Games in order to focus upon getting himself prepared for the World Championships.

Morton Games, however, are pleased to confirm the participation in the Muscle Clinic Men’s 800 of Charlie Grice (GBR). Grice was a finalist in the 1500 at last year’s Rio Olympic Games and is one of the worlds top middle distance athletes.  He has a 1500 PB of 3.33.60 set in Monaco in July of last year and a season’s best of 3.35.72.  His Mile PB also from last year is 3.52.64 whilst he has clocked 3.53.62 this season.  His 800 PB stands at 1.45.53 from the London Anniversary Games of 2016.

Fantastic field of sub 4 milers gathered for Morton Mile

The 2016 Morton Mile set a record for the most sub 4 miles in the one race on Irish soil, an unbelievable 11. The prospects of going even better on Wednesday look good!

With defending champion Johnny Gregorek (USA) not travelling to Morton, he has the small matter of the World Championships to prepare for, Kyle Merber (USA) and Colby Alexander 2nd and 3rd respectively last year will line up looking to cross the line first. Also competing is Sam McEntee (AUS), former high school sensation Drew Hunter who is second on the US high school list of fastest milers behind the legendary Jim Ruan, US 1500 Championship finalist Sam Prakel, University of Oregon, and the Mexican record holder Daniel Herrera, PB 3.56.13.  Herrera’s record breaking run was set on the 1st of June this year and bettered the previous record which was set in the Morton … Read More »



Bell and Mageean, the re-match

Fans at Wednesday night`s Morton Games can look forward to another great battle in the Marathon Mission Women`s 800 with last year`s first and second Aex Bell of Great Britain and Ireland`s Ciara Mageengoing head to head.

The 2016 race was epic with the winner only decided inches from the line with both athletes recording pbs, Bell 2.00.53 and Mageean 2.00.53.  With Ce’Aira Brown (USA) having pb’d only days ago with a 2.00.84 and Adelle Tracey also on 2.00.35 all four will look to join Angie Petty (NZD), also running on Wednesday, in the sub two club.



Margaret Adoye added to Aon 200

Top British sprinter Margaret Adoye is a late addition to the Aon Women’s 200. Adoye competed for Great Britain in the 2012 London Olympics making the 200 semi finals. She has medalled at major championships having won silver for Great Britain at the 2013 World Championships in the 4 x 400 relay and the following year bronze at the World Indoor and also taking bronze at the European Championships that year. Adoye has a very impressive PB of 22.88.

In Wednesday’s Aon 200 she will face possible favourite Sada Williams (BAR) who has a 22.61 PB along with Irish quartet of Amy Foster, the four times national champion, rising star Sharlene Mawdsley, the 2017 national indoor champion and All Ireland Schools 400 champion, Phil Healy and Catherine McManus.

American Football Star for Aon 100

Jeff Demps is on his way to Santry for the Aon 100. Demps is not only a track and field star but an American Football Star. At college he was the running back for the University of Florida football team and at the same time on the track he won the NCAA 60m indoor title in 2010 and 2012 and 100m outdoor title in 2010. He was selected for the US Olympic team for London 2012 running in the heats. After the Olympics Demps signed professional with the New England Patriots and later went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Demps is a Diamond League winner with a most impressive 10.01pb. His seasons best is 10.03, and only a matter of weeks ago ran 9.90, however the wind was +2.8.



One of the world’s best all round athletes coming

One of the world’s best all round athletes, multi eventer Curtis Beach (USA) is coming to Santry to compete in the 400 hurdles. Curtis Beach finished 4th at the World Indoor Championships in 2016 in the heptathlon in Portland.  He was the NCAA champion 2012 and 2014 whilst at Duke University.

His range of best across the whole spectrum of athletic disciplines is extraordinary to say the least:

100 – 10.52, 400 – 46.72, 800 – 1.47.75, 1500 3.59.13, 400h – 49.83, Pole Vault – 5.10, Long Jump – 7.88.

This extraordinarily talented athlete is a welcomed addition to the 2017 Morton Games.



Mark English confirmed for Morton

Morton Games is delighted to confirm that Ireland’s Mark English will be competing in the 2017 Morton Games. Mark will run in the Muscle Clinic Men’s 800.  Having in the last couple of weeks secured world qualifying time for London with a 1.45.42 run for 2nd place at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting on June 18th the UCD A.C. athlete will come into Wednesday’s race in a relaxed frame of mind chasing the win rather than having the burden of world qualifying time to chase.
