Athletes coming from a Land Down Under
Morton Games is delighted to have a contingent of athletes from Australia competing in next month`s meet. 2016 Rio Olympian Sam McEntee will go in the Morton Mile as part of his London World Championships 5000 preparations. This will be McEntee`s first run in the Morton Mile, previously he won the Albie Thomas 3000. He has been in excellent form this Summer having run a 5000 pb of 13.17.55 on May 5th and looks odds on to run a mile pb here (current best 3.58.41).
The 5000 will feature two members of the Australian IAAF 2017 World Cross team: Stewart McSweyn and Jack Rayner. McSweyn, 5000 pb 13.34.46, only days ago ran a 3000 pb of 7.47.65 in Turku, Finland. Rayner, of course attracted the athletics world`s attention at the start of the season when he out kicked Olympic 1500 Champion Matt Centrowitz at the Payton Jordan Invitational 3000. Rayner has a 5000 best of 13.41.35, a 3000 best, set in Kingston a few weeks back, of 7.52.70 and the matter of a mile best of 3.58.7 to call upon.
The 5000 at Morton Games, is a first for this meet and has attracted huge interest from athletes chasing World and European standards. It`s going to be big and it`s going to be fast!
